IN THE SPOTLYGHT FEATURE MAGAZINE PRESENTS… QSHAN DEYA!

QShan Deya

Kellis Quashie is a vocalist, musician, producer, arranger, songwriter and recording artiste. ‘Jah humble servant’ as he calls himself was born Kellis Quashie of Sugar Hill, Union Island in St. Vincent and the Grenadines….

His professional career began in 1999 in Brooklyn, New York where he recorded his first single titled Journey. In 2001 his debut album Journey was also released. The acclaimed album featured Yami Bolo and Richie Spice. Qshan later embarked on a US tour with the Star Trail Family where he opened for Anthony B. His performance as always was  a force to be reckoned with; his compelling lyrical content and stage presence easily commanding audience attention which is commonplace for him. His vocal range allows him to reach the high tones of Al Green and in contrast descend to deep baritones of the likes of Barry White. He has often been compared with Dennis Brown, Luciano and Peter Tosh.

Qshan Deya’ visited Jamaica for the first time on July 23rd 2002, where he got the opportunity to meet with renown producer Bobby Digital which resulted in the production of his first lovers’ rock hit Show me the Love which topped the New York charts in 2003 on the WLIB 1190 am Caribbean radio station. Driven with a passion to excel in his craft, Qshan Deya’ made an informed decision to journey to the island of Jamaica again in 2010 to absorb from the sources at the root of the Reggae Music Industry. While there, he met with established music producer Garfield ‘Sampalue’ Phillips of Diamond Rush Productions who was instrumental with the foundation and development of the career of Marion ‘Lady Saw’ Hall as her manager and producer. Sampalue also produced tracks with Luciano, Dennis Brown, Marcia Griffiths, Freddie McGregor, Bounty Killa, Beenie Man and long list of others.

Qshan and Sampalue developed an instant camaraderie with music being their common passion. It took no time for them to enter the recording studio where ideas were forged to produce tracks. A mutual friendship was also established which saw Qshan Deya’ being the newest artiste signed with Diamond Rush Productions. Qshan Deya’ was given the opportunity to perform on Pepsi Rebel Salute 2011. His performance piqued the interest of media professionals and patrons alike. His commanding stage presence kept the patrons engaged, particularly his resonating voice and lyrical portrayal of topics relating to life issues and the society. This opened up avenues for him to be part of the 2011 RE/Coke Zero School Tour staged annually in Jamaica celebrating acts in Reggae, reinforcing to youngsters social messages such as Abstinence and It’s never too late to pull it up. Qshan

Deya’ participated in this year’s JCDC Festival (popular song competition) in Kingston Jamaica for the first time ever. There, he qualified for both semi finals and finals, making history as the first ever OECS artiste to have ever entered in such prestigious competition in Jamaica being embraced. This milestone bridged the gap between the two region. It also opened many doors for Qshan including the recent sold out show in Rochester August 19th 2011 alongside Beres Hammond and Wayne Wonder on their US Tour.

Qshan also performed at RWIFO Carifesta held August 13th 2011 in Rochester. The ‘’Volcano Trumpet’’ QD as he calls himself also made a stunning appearance at this year’s first ever Reggae Rhythm and Blues show held in Queens NY . The Roy Wilkins Park event took place on September 4th 2011, with artistes like Baby face, Monica, Macheal HD., Tarrus Riley, Mavado, I octane, Leroy Sibbles and more performing. In January of 2012 he performed at Lava Splash alongside ZionRoots Sound.  Qshan has recently released his long await 17 track second album Love Governs Us All featuring Tony Rebel, Half Pint, Lady G and more.He is presently receiving overwhelming rotations on internet stations as well as local radio stations and clubs in the USA, Europe and Africa. Qshan is currently in the US promoting his new album Love Govern Us All on both the west and east coasts.

QShan is always in tune with what is happening around him particularly digitally. His ability to personally communicate with his fans across the globe one on one gives him an edge as an artiste. His unique gift as a vocalist is by far his only strength; his high regard for spirituality and family, coupled with his undeniable faith as a SIMEON he says propels him toward success.
